If you're hauling ass through an area, make sure the animation where he turns onto a ledge or turns around to get on the ladder actually starts before you commit. Oh idk what platform you're playing on but I thought of two more small things:ġ) Don't trust Blake on ladders and ledges from chapter 4 onwards. After you have all the chases down pat these will probably be the tensest parts, or at least they were for me. Take the balance beams and leaps of faith as slow as you need to, too. It's almost impossible to fail on Nightmare but at the end of an Insane run your nerves can betray you like crazy. I got over it by treating every run as practice instead of something I could fail until I got it. My major downfall was getting to the blood rain, suddenly realizing how far I'd gotten, and getting hopeful. You know the drill since you did Outlast on Insane, but 2 is just longer and more stressful toward the end. Speaking of keeping a cool head, it's probably the best advice I can give. As long as you remember that the demon that follows you into the maze is just a vision and won't actually get you until you trigger him near the table with the battery on it, though, just keep a cool head and the section won't be any trouble at all. You could just memorize the level, but with permadeath nerves having the physical map saved my life (and battery) every time I got here. On the subject of the library, u/ED_Fire made an excellent map that I printed out to use on my Messiah run. Future you will be thankful when you aren’t afraid to reload your batteries after you’ve made it into the mines. The other commenters have already covered most of the tricky points so I'll try to fill in the gaps without repeating them. The flashbacks to the school are a particularly good place to find a charge so even if you don’t feel like it, head into all the offices you can enter and check every desk.

It feels like common sense but when you’re in a room that you aren’t being chased through, have a wander around and you’ll probably find a few sneaky glowing batteries hiding.

Helpfully they stay in there, even when you’re being crucified or swimming. If you look down at your body, you can see how many batteries you have in your left pocket. There are of course a few fires scattered around and the sequences in the school are well lit, but you’ll need a solid supply of double As to survive.

Night vision is essential for the majority of Outlast 2, as it plunges you into near darkness a lot more than you’ll probably be comfortable with. Let’s definitely not take this opportunity to question why Blake Langermann doesn’t use a lithium ion device.
